Canon VR Imaging Lens Wins Award At The Design For Asia Awards 2023

Canon's VR Imaging Lens Wins The Bronze Award At The Design For Asia Awards 202

Canon VR Imaging Lens Wins Award At The Design For Asia Awards 2023

MELVILLE, NY, November 20, 2023 – Canon Inc. announced today that the company's RF5.2mm F2.8 L Dual Fisheye Lens was recognized for design excellence by the Hong Kong Design Centre, winning the Bronze Award at the DFA Design for Asia Awards 2023.

The use of VR is expanding in a wide range of industries, including entertainment, tourism, and education. The RF5.2 mm F2.8 L Dual Fisheye, which won the bronze award, has two fisheye lenses and can shoot 3D 180-degree VR images using the parallax of left and right optical systems. Since the incoming light from each of the binocular lenses can be recorded through a single CMOS sensor, this product eliminates the need for adjusting the camera position before shooting and video synchronization, as well as video stitching after shooting, thereby helping to streamline the video production workflow.

This lens provides the reliability and rigidity that professional and high amateur users deserve. It features a shape with the corners moderately angled and a distinctive design with a dent in the center to avoid reflection in the image. The back of the lens has an ergonomic design that slims down the base to the extreme to give the camera a tight grip. In addition, the edge of the manual focus ring is grooved so that it can be accurately focused by operation from the rear helping to prevent the operator's hand from interfering captured image.

Canon has participated in the DFA Design for Asia Awards since 2013, having won awards for such products as its EOS R System next generation imaging system, Cinema EOS System professional cinematography equipment, video camcorders, cameras, and interchangeable lenses. This year marks Canon’s 10th time receiving a prize.

Encouraged by this latest industry recognition, Canon will continue striving to create products that combine the highest levels of performance and design excellence.

Canon Welcomes New Creative Minds to EMEA Ambassador Programme

Canon welcomes 62 new creative minds to its EMEA Ambassador programme

Canon Welcomes New Creative Minds to EMEA Ambassador Programme

London, UK, November 9, 2023 – Since its inception in 2008, the Canon EMEA Ambassador programme has grown into one of the most influential industry initiatives bringing photographers, videographers and cinematographers together, to share their knowledge and skill with the wider imaging community. This month, marking the most comprehensive programme update in the past three years, 62 cross-discipline creators will join the ranks.

Following a rigorous selection process by a panel of industry experts, this year’s intake will play a pivotal role in advancing the programme’s goals. These include fostering strong relationships between Canon and the professional community, to support, educate, inspire and nurture visual storytellers at all levels in a shared passion. New artistic voices will be key to this conversation, spearheaded by the likes of Camilla Ferrari and Chiara Negrello, two young creatives brimming with talent and ideas whose first connections with Canon were forged years prior as alumni of the Canon Student Development Programme.

Susie Donaldson, European Marketing Director for Canon said: “We truly feel that this new Ambassador cohort will usher in a new era for the programme. We can’t wait to learn more about their perspectives on image-making and using the camera as a tool for storytelling, as well as discussing topics and issues that really matter to them. The increased size of the programme also means that we can now reach and inspire even more creatives through workshops, talks and tutorials. ”

Celebrating the very best in visual storytelling, the Canon EMEA Ambassador Programme brings together a wide spectrum of talent, from internationally-acclaimed visual artists and photojournalists that spearhead change, to rising stars in the creator space who have mastered the formula of successful storytelling.

Canon Redline Challenge 2023 Winning Image

Winning image of the Canon Redline Challenge 2023 revealed

Canon Redline Challenge 2023 Winning Image

London, UK, November 6, 2023 – In its third and record-breaking year, with over 30,000 images from over 50 countries submitted, Canon Europe is pleased to reveal the winner of this year’s Redline Challenge photography competition. Following the theme of ‘Room to Breathe’, the creative task required entrants to have a strong sense of composition and framing, as well as the ability to convey calmness and serenity in their work.

Carlos Salvador from Spain captured this strikingly ethereal image of a dog on a foggy beach.

Carlos Salvador’s winning image, in which he captured his dog on a morning walk along his local beach, is very captivating. The posture of the dog, looking curiously to the side, reveals a brief moment of stillness between the two. The fog adds an element of mystery to the scene. Carlos will receive a Canon EOS R5 bundle, including the highly versatile RF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM lens.

12 stunning images had made it into the final shortlist this year, and a panel of judges assessed each entry for its composition, creativity, and technical mastery. “Anyone who has ever tried to photograph a pet knows that it is almost impossible to get it to pose. Carlos managed to get a perfectly composed shot, with his dog framed in the left third of the image, his gaze almost guiding the viewer“, said competition judge and Canon Ambassador Joel Santos. “The colours are also perfectly balanced with the warm ochre tone of the sand juxtaposed with the cooler blue tones of the sky. Overall, the serene atmosphere of the image really spoke to us, a beautiful moment of reflection.”

“This year’s brief was tough because it left so much room for interpretation, and we were thrilled to see that the task elicited creativity beyond what we could’ve imagined. We’ve received submissions across lots of different genres, from sports to landscape and fine art. It’s always an incredibly rewarding exercise to look at all the different expressions of one theme. Hopefully the Redline Challenge will continue to inspire photography enthusiasts to keep exploring“, said Susie Donaldson, European Marketing Director at Canon.

Canon Unveils the World’s First Super Telephoto Zoom Lens

Zoom up to 800 mm (or 1,600 mm with a teleconverter), with Canon’s groundbreaking RF200-800mm f/6.3-9 IS USM, which is also its first weather-sealed non-L RF lens

Canon Unveils the World’s First Super Telephoto Zoom Lens

SINGAPORE, 3 November 2023 — Canon today announced the RF200-800mm f/6.3-9 IS USM, its first super telephoto zoom lens to reach as far as 800 mm. With a reach beyond the common 600 mm telephoto zoom lenses in the market, it is also the world’s first1 super telephoto zoom lens for full-frame cameras. Yet, the RF200-800mm f/6.3-9 IS USM remains portable, features weather-sealing and edge-to-edge quality across its entire zoom range while staying affordable.

“Canon has always sought to cater to the diverse needs of photographers with our product offerings. This new lens provides wildlife, outdoor sports, and other photographers who shoot faraway subjects with an unprecedented combination of extra reach, zoom flexibility, superior quality and durability while maintaining affordability.” said Ichinomiya Takashi, Director of Regional ICB Sales & Marketing, Canon Singapore.

Unprecedented Reach with Zoom Flexibility between 200 mm to 800 mm
While there are affordable super telephoto prime lenses in Canon’s line up such as the RF800mm f/11 IS STM, the RF200-800mm f/6.3-9 IS USM offers is equipped with zoom functionality, covering the telephoto focal range that previously required at least three different lenses to cover. Be it a bird flying in the distance, or a motorsports athlete in various defining moments, the versatile 200 mm to 800 mm focal range (320 mm to 1,280 mm on an APS-C camera) lets users seamlessly capture both close-ups and wider shots of the same subject simultaneously. This can be achieved without being restricted by the focal length or missing out the moment due to changing of lenses. With the RF Extender 2x, coverage is extended to 1,600 mm (2,560 mm on an APS-C camera)—sufficient for capturing stunning close-ups of the moon.

Convenient Handheld Shooting: Lightweight and Mobile with Up to 5.5 Stops’ Built-in IS
Despite its astounding zoom range, the 2,050 g, 314.1 mm-long RF200-800mm f/6.3-9 IS USM is comparable in size and weight to its counterparts that end at 600 mm. This mobility makes it easy to follow and capture moving subjects when shooting handheld, even if they occur unexpectedly.

Up to 5.5 stops’ equivalent built-in optical image stabilization2 effectively corrects the camera shake that becomes more prominent at long focal lengths, allowing sharp, stable images at as slow as 1/20 second even at the 800 mm tele end.

Designed for Action: High-speed AF, Operational Ease
Built for capturing high-speed action, the RF200-800mm f/6.3-9 IS USM is driven by the powerful Nano USM (Ultrasonic Motor), which also contributes to the lens’ compact size. This enables fast and accurate focusing for stills, along with smooth and quiet focusing for video up to the entire image area with compatible cameras. Focus Breathing Correction is also supported.

Swift, intuitive control extends to lens operations – in addition to a customisable focus/control ring, there are two lens function buttons that can be turned into shortcuts for functions such as AF or exposure control.

Dust- and Drip-resistant Sealing for Better Durability
Similar to an L-lens, the RF200-800mm f/6.3-9 IS USM features strategically placed dust- and drip-resistant sealing for better durability during outdoor shoots3. It is also coated with white paint to reduce heat absorbency and internal temperature rise due to sunlight.

More information is available at https://asia.canon.

1 As an AF interchangeable lens for full-frame sensor mirrorless cameras that have already been released as of November 1, 2023. (Based on Canon’s internal survey.)
2 At focal length of 800 mm with EOS R. Yaw/Pitch directions.
3 This cannot guarantee complete exclusion of water and dust from entry.

Canon's VR imaging lens wins Bronze at Design for Asia Awards 2023

Canon's VR imaging lens wins the Bronze Award at the Design for Asia Awards 2023

Canon's VR imaging lens wins Bronze at Design for Asia Awards 2023

TOKYO, November 1, 2023—Canon Inc. announced today that the company's RF5.2mm F2.8 L DUAL FISHEYE was recognized for design excellence by the Hong Kong Design Centre, winning the Bronze Award at the DFA Design for Asia Awards 2023.

The use of VR is expanding in a wide range of industries, including entertainment, tourism and education. The RF5.2 mm F2.8 L DUAL FISHEYE, which won the bronze award this time, has 2 fisheye lenses and can shoot 3D 180 degrees VR images using the parallax of left and right.

Since the incoming light from each of the binocular lenses can be recorded through a single CMOS sensor, this product eliminates the need for adjusting the camera position before shooting and video synchronization, as well as video stitching after shooting, thereby streamlining the video production workflow.

The front look of this lens shows the reliability and rigidity that professional and high amateur users deserve. It features a shape with the corners moderately angled and a distinctive design with a dent in the center to avoid reflection in the image. The back of the lens has an ergonomic design that slims down the base to the extreme to give the camera a tight grip. In addition, the edge of the manual focus ring is grooved so that it can be accurately focused by operation from the rear preventing the operator's hand from interfering captured image.

Canon has participated in the DFA Design for Asia Awards since 2013, having thus far won awards for such products as its EOS R System next generation imaging system, Cinema EOS System professional cinematography equipment, video camcorders, cameras and interchangeable lenses. This year marks Canon’s 10th time receiving a prize.

Encouraged by this latest industry recognition, Canon will continue striving to create products that combine the highest levels of performance and design excellence.
