Canon Launches the RF 135mm f/1.8L IS USM Lens

Canon Officially Launches the RF 135mm f/1.8L IS USM Lens

EOS R full-frame mirrorless camera system's first large aperture full-frame mid-telephoto portrait lens

Canon RF 135mm f/1.8L IS USM Lens

HONG KONG, 31st January 2023 — Canon today announces the New RF 135mm f/1.8L IS USM is available to sale. This new lens will continue the legacy of Canon’s EF 135mm f/2L USM portrait lens and take it further to the next level on the new EOS R Mirrorless Camera System. The new optical design of this lens which takes full advantages of short back focus distance and large diameter of the RF lens mount makes possible further leap in image quality. The 135mm autofocus lens with an ultra large aperture of f/1.8 allows professionals to capture extremely sharp, detailed imagery. Featuring Canon’s leading optical technology, its optical design includes three Ultra-low Dispersion (UD) glass to offer refined image quality. RF 135mm f/1.8L IS USM achieves the highest optical performance where superior image quality is realized even at maximum aperture of f/1.8. Together with outstanding AF speeds, “ASC air sphere coating" to improve the performance of backlight shooting, Nano USM, lens function buttons, RF lens control ring and dust-and-water resistant design, this professional 135mm lens is the ultimate choice for professional portrait and wedding photographers and videographers.

The Ultimate Canon f/1.8 Portrait Lens with Highest Optical Performance

RF 135mm f/1.8L IS USM has everything that portrait photographers could have longed for. 135mm is the golden focal length that professional portrait photographers love to use. This unique 135mm focal length can bring a different sense of perspective to portrait shooting, even when shooting half-length or full-body photos, it can provide a natural and appropriate depth of field and perspective of the subject relative to the background while maintaining optimum distance between the photographer and subject to support strong communication which is crucial to a successful shot.To deliver top-of-class image quality, RF 135mm f/1.8L IS USM is infused with a host of Canon’s leading optical technologies. The lens adopts a newly developed 17 elements in 12 groups optical design with effectively placement of three UD glass elements to achieve the highest optical performance among Canon’s autofocus interchangeable lenses with 135mm focal length even at f/1.8. What’s more, Air Sphere Coating (ASC) is added to reduce chromatic aberration and ghosting to achieve superior imaging performance with exceptional contrast and details.

An Ultra Large Aperture of f/1.8 to Create One-of-a-Kind Bokeh Effect and Perfect for Low-light Shooting

The bright f/1.8 maximum aperture of the lens allows for great control over depth of field and bokeh. It also uses 9 circular aperture leaves to create a silky soft shallow depth of field background blur effect to set off the clear and detailed subject in the foreground. Because of the focal length does not change, it offers the outstanding bokeh effects of a fixed focal length lens with optimized optics. This bokeh is not possible with a 70-200mm f/2.8 zoom lens, letting the subject stand out by giving even more beautiful blur to the background.

While maximize the aperture at f/1.8, photographers can use the subject detection and eye detection autofocus functions of EOS R series cameras to focus on the subject and the subject's eyes precisely, that's making the image more visually appealing.

Utilizing the high-speed shooting capabilities of a large-diameter f/1.8 lens, it lets photographers freeze movement of subjects even in low-light or dark settings. This makes it suitable for not only portraits but also indoor sports where users need slightly faster shutter speeds.

Built-in Optical Image Stabilization and 0.26x Magnification function

The RF 135mm f/1.8L IS USM is the only 135mm medium telephoto lens equipped with an optical image stabilizer, and it weighs only 935 grams. The lens optical image stabilizer offers up to 5.5-stop1 shake compensation to facilitate handheld shooting with a slower shutter speed. When used with the EOS R series cameras equipped with In-Body Image Stabilization, a stunning 8-stop2 shake compensation is achieved through Coordinate Control IS.

Even in dark settings, the high-precision eye detection and OIS×IBIS coordinated control help to make shooting smoother and less stressful. Utilizing the outstanding camera shake control, it prevents blurring and captures pupils clearly even in low light.

The RF 135mm f/1.8L IS USM is capable of shooting at 0.26x maximum magnification with a minimum focusing distance of 0.7m. This makes it easy to capture intricate details and textures in close-ups of faces or enlargements of a portion of the subject. Its f/1.8 large aperture can also help creating impressive close-up images with soft bokeh.

Newly added lens function buttons That Makes Camera Operation Easy

RF 135mm f/1.8L IS USM is the first for a Canon lens that isn’t with large aperture super telephoto or super telephoto, provides two lens function buttons (on the top and side). The Customize buttons lets users assign various functions to these buttons. They function as AF stop buttons by default as before, and they can be used to temporarily suspend AF when pressed while using the feature. This is useful for maintaining shooting distance and avoiding search drive.

RF 135mm f/1.8L IS USM also features a Control Ring as found in other RF lenses for users to directly adjust numerous assigned settings including aperture, shutter speed, ISO sensitivity and exposure compensation. When the control ring is operated alongside the main dial and quick control dial on1 CIPA Standard, Focal Length: 135mm, EOS R is used. In yaw/pitch direction2 CIPA Standard, Focal Length: 135mm, EOS R3 is used. In yaw/pitch direction.the EOS R camera, users could have three individual dials to set the aperture, shutter speed and ISO sensitivity respectively in manual exposure mode.

High-Speed AF with excellent tracking for Video Recording

The lens employs Nano USM, which offers faster and smoother AF movement. The USM ultrasonic motor of the lens not only supports full-time manual focus, but also provides continuous, smooth and quiet movie servo autofocus when working with the dual-pixel CMOS autofocus technology of EOS R series cameras. When used in combination with the camera's touch AF, the focus can be changed naturally to any desired focus position, which facilitates one-person operation.

In addition, it also cooperates with the EOS R series cameras that support the focus breathing correction function. When shooting movies, the focus breathing correction function suppresses the change of the angle of view caused by the change of the focusing distance. The focus breathing correction function suppresses changes in the angle of view caused by focus movement. It allows users to record natural movies with no discomfort even if focus is changed from foreground to background or vice-versa.

Superior Durability and Reliability to Withstand Challenging Environment

Designed to perform even in harsh conditions, RF 135mm f/1.8L IS USM retains the same high durability and rugged construction as found in the EF lenses in the L series to cope with professional users’ demands. Fluorine coating is also added to the foremost and rearmost lens surfaces to repel dust particles and water droplets. It also makes smears and fingerprints easy to remove without the use of lens cleaning fluid. The lens also features dust and water resistance design3, providing the durability that satisfies the strict demand from professional users, making it ideal for professional photographers to rely on while working in vastly challenging outdoor environments.

New Canon Add-On Applications System for Remote Cameras

Canon’s New Add-On Applications System for Remote Cameras Takes Video Production to the Next Level

New Canon Add-On Applications System for Remote Cameras

Featuring innovative Auto Tracking and Auto Loop Applications, the system provides operators with simple yet highly adaptable configurations to enhance video production

SINGAPORE, 26 January 2023 — Canon today announced the launch of an Add-On Applications System for remote cameras, enabling operators to enhance video production by adding advanced features through the installation of paid applications. The system now incorporates two innovative applications, the Auto Tracking and Auto Loop Applications to meet different video production needs, and will encompass more applications going forward.

Aimed at providing simple and highly adaptable system configurations, the new applications operate within remote cameras1 without the need for external hardware such as servers and PCs. The applications support the CR-N7002, Canon’s high-end indoor 4K remote camera currently, and will expand to cover more compatible remote cameras gradually. Designed to improve productivity, the new features help to reduce workload and manpower for remote production, allowing operators to focus on other tasks such as camera switching and content delivery.

The Auto Tracking Application enables the remote camera to automatically track speakers or other specified persons during commercial presentations, lectures and events. With in-camera visual analysis, the system realises superb tracking capability, allowing shooting with excellent freedom of view, including full body, upper body, shoulders-up and other viewpoints, while following the movement of subjects moving at speeds ranging from slow to brisk3. In addition to the standard image capture of human figures typically required for broadcasting commercial events and lectures, the remote camera aided by its high-performance pan/tilt mechanism can capture the slow movement of subjects smoothly for quality video production. Furthermore, the application features a wide array of adjustment settings such as Composition, Tracking Sensitivity, and Priority Display Area.

The Auto Loop Application enables the remote camera to automatically repeat subtle pan/tilt/zoom (PTZ) staging movements typically performed by operators during the broadcast of events such as sports competitions, and interviews, as well as in the production of TV commercials and movies. Between patrol and back-and-forth motions within specified locations, operators can adjust parameters such as Position Setting to determine the pause duration at each point, Route Setting to determine movement speed, and other operations including Preview and Start, which can be easily configured on the settings screen. Additionally, operators can adjust the acceleration and deceleration of movements as the motions begin and end via the Fade Mode, enabling the automated camera system to mimic professional camerawork.

Canon CR-N700 4K PTZ Camera Firmware Update

Canon CR-N700 4K PTZ Camera Will Receive a Firmware Update That Will Enable the Addition of Paid Add-On Applications Beginning with Auto Tracking and Auto Loop

Canon CR-N700 4K PTZ Camera Firmware Update

MELVILLE, N.Y., January 26, 2023 – Canon U.S.A. Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced the upcoming “Add-On Applications System” for PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) remote cameras that will provide access to add new paid video production features, beginning with auto tracking and auto loop applications for the company’s flagship 4K PTZ camera, the CR-N700. The auto tracking application will give the CR-N700 the ability to automatically pan, tilt, and zoom to track moving subjects, and the auto loop application will allow users to program and automate repeated camera movements. The Add-on Applications System will be available to be added to the CR-N700 via a future firmware update. Going forward, Canon plans to expand the lineup of applications offered by its Add-On Applications System, as well as the lineup of compatible remote camera models

These initial paid add-on applications uniquely position Canon in the PTZ market as the applications run from within the camera itself, while competitive models may require end-users to run an external device to operate the auto tracking and auto loop applications. With the addition of the Add-On Applications System, customers can now directly add the new capabilities to the PTZ camera, providing a better value for end-users.

Auto Tracking Add-On Application
The auto tracking paid add-on application enables automatic tracking according to a subject’s movements. As the subject moves, the camera will pan, tilt, and zoom to maintain the subject’s composition in the frame. This added function helps to reduce the camera operator’s workload, letting them focus on other tasks such as camera switching and streaming, and allows for multi-camera shoots with fewer people on set.

The auto tracking is highly responsive, allowing for full body, upper body, and head and torso tracking at both slow and normal walking speeds, and full body and upper body tracking at fast walking speed. In addition, the auto tracking application provides users with a wide range of adjustment functions such as composition, tracking sensitivity, priority display area, fixed viewing angle area, tracking target auto select, pan/tilt halting area, initial position, auto select exclusion, and pan/tilt operation control.

The new auto tracking add-on application is ideal for end-users in markets such as house of worship and corporate event streaming, educational workshops and lectures, and broadcast and corporate interviews.

Auto Loop Add-On Application
The auto loop paid add-on application helps automate repeated camera movements, potentially lessening the burden on camera operators. Camera operators will now have the flexibility to select between two repeated movements, loop or back-and-forth, based on needs and the shooting environment. The ability to adjust acceleration and deceleration when starting and stopping movement between two preset positions helps to present more professional-looking content. For added convenience, camera operators can adjust settings such as position, route, preview, and start from one screen.

The new auto loop add-on application is ideal for consistent smooth on-air movements for end-users in markets such as house of worship and corporate event streaming, broadcast and over-the-top (OTT) sports and interview streaming, and commercial production.

Pricing and Availability
The Firmware Update to add the “Add-On Applications System” is scheduled to be available in March 2023. The paid Auto Tracking and Auto Loop Add-On Applications are scheduled to be available in April 2023 for $1200.00 and $800.00, respectively*. Additional details about these paid applications will be available shortly. For more information, please visit usa.canon.com.

Canon expands MAXIFY / PIXMA range with new MegaTank Models

New efficient and productive models offer a range of ideal print solutions for homes, offices and small businesses

Nww Canon PIXMA and Canon MAXIFY Printers

Sydney, AUSTRALIA – 24 January 2023: Canon Australia today announces the expansion of its MAXIFY range for those working at home, or in small businesses, with the MAXIFY GX3060 and MAXIFY GX4060. Built with collaboration, efficiency and productivity in mind, the expanded series is ideal for reaching a wide range of needs within different workspaces – whether its hybrid, working from home or running a small business.

Today, alongside these new models, Canon expands its MegaTank range further with PIXMA G4670 and PIXMA G3670 Series – featuring three new fast, high-quality, refillable ink tank printers, ideal for families wanting to make savings on home printing.

MAXIFY GX3060 and MAXIFY GX4060

Space saving and cost-efficient
Equipped with MegaTank refillable ink tank technology, both models are highly efficient and productive. They are easy to maintain and easy to use – saving time to focus on other business matters. Downtime is reduced with high volume printing of up to 14,000 pages from a set of colour ink bottles¹ – or up to 21,000 pages when used in the economy print mode² – while large paper capacity of up to 350 sheets (250-sheet cassette and 100-sheet rear feed) and a user replaceable maintenance cartridge reduce the need to send the printer away for servicing.

With small business needs and home working at the heart of these new printers, both the MAXIFY GX3060 and MAXIFY GX4060 feature fast copying and scanning and include a 4-colour pigment-based refillable ink tank system. Both models are housed in a compact desktop design, which are a better fit for smaller home office spaces.

High productivity and collaboration
When hybrid working between the home and office – or in a shared small business environment – fast printing speeds of 18.0 ipm for black (mono) printing and 13.0 ipm for colour in both printer models reduce waiting time in between prints.

Featuring 4-colour pigment ink, both models are ideal for high-quality business prints on a variety of media types³. Canon has exclusively developed pigment inks to print with crisp and easily readable black text, with highly visible colour text and graphics – alongside colour reproduction contrast improvements over previous MAXIFY GX models. The all-pigment inks also resist bleeding and blurring, so documents can be highlighted and shared with confidence that they will remain professional-looking.

The high-capacity cassette, equipped with a window, can store 250 sheets of plain paper as well as a 100 sheet rear tray, which removes the need to constantly refill each printer. The printers also feature a flat rear paper tray, supporting a variety of media types and sizes, along with another rear flat tray for paperboard feeding – covering a wide range of business needs with a single printer.

Additionally, the new MAXIFY GX models support Chromebook, with direct printing and scanning from Chrome OS. The printers also include support for a wide range of operating systems, including Mac, Windows, iOS and Android.

Easy maintenance
Both the MAXIFY GX3060 and MAXIFY GX4060 are easy to use and maintain thanks to improved hardware design, touchscreens (MAXIFY GX4060 only) and sleek interfaces. Refilling the printers is easier than before – with spring-loaded colour-coded ink caps, users can refill each tank with a gentle lift of the finger. What’s more, the user-replaceable maintenance cartridge is now positioned at the front for easy access and usability.

Seamless connectivity within the workplace
Offering smart connectivity, MAXIFY users can print, scan, copy and connect to the cloud all via the Canon PRINT app, benefitting from compatibility with existing software and technology platforms including AirPrint® and Mopria®. When connected to Wi-Fi, the printers will read the strength of the signal and security, and where there are multiple access points, they will automatically connect to the one with the best security and data conditions. MAXIFY GX3060 and MAXIFY GX4060 also come with various features including WPA3-SAE, WPA3-EAP(AES) and TLS 1.3 encryption to help mitigate security risks.

Diverse media support for printing
Posters, POS and other paperboard prints that would have traditionally been outsourced can now be produced via the MAXIFY GX3060 and MAXIFY GX4060, which can help to reduce the overall cost of promotional materials for small businesses. To support in-house business printing, both devices are now compatible with diverse media applications, including paperboard printing via the brand new rear flat tray. PosterArtist Web can be used to create posters with no professional design skills required – templates, auto-design and free stock photos help create attractive end results. It is available via a web browser online, so editing can be done anytime, anywhere.

Effective January 1, Canon is proud to include Nadia Aly, Kevin Jairaj, Alex Strohl, and Victoria Will as its newest members of this elite group of visual artists. Each photographer brings a level of style, energy, and artistic acumen that not only stand on their own merits, but complement the diverse photographic genres represented by the other 32 creative artists currently participating in the program.

Canon Adds Renowned Photographers to “Legends Program”

As a new class of creators enter the Explorers of Light program, an influential group of EOLs will become lifetime members of Canon Legends, a program that preserves the legacy and leadership of some of the most accomplished EOLs. This group of industry legends will continue to share their knowledge and expertise with photographers and filmmakers through workshops, seminars, and published articles.

About Canon’s New Explorers of Light

Nadia Aly: Underwater / Wildlife

About Nadia: Nadia Aly is an award-winning wildlife photographer with a focus on underwater marine life. Her primary goal is to educate people globally about the diverse populations of sea creatures that exist in our oceans. She captures their beauty and uniqueness with her camera and then publishes these photographs and videos. She does this in an effort to raise awareness and interest in supporting efforts to conserve our oceans and their inhabitants. She takes interested clients on numerous underwater expeditions every year, through her company Scuba Diver Life Expeditions (SDLexpeditions.com), with a focus on in-water whale encounters around the world.

Notable clients include: Private individuals who participate in Nadia’s numerous underwater expeditions organized through her company, Scuba Diver Life Expeditions.

  • What’s in Her Bag? Canon EOS R3 and EOS R5 bodies, RF15-35mm, RF100-500mm, and EF8-15mm lenses
  • Thoughts on Photography: “I think photography is an amazing tool to share moments in time. I personally use it to share moments and educate others about the numerous animals that call our oceans home. Not a lot of people get to experience the ocean the way I do, and I find it important to help show and educate others. For example, my ‘Hairy Frog Fish’ photo. Not many people know what a hairy frog fish is, and I received thousands of comments from curious viewers about the photo. This to me is a win, as it’s a great example of educating others about an animal that most have never heard of.”
  • What it Means to be a Canon EOL: “I think being an Explorer of Light offers me an opportunity to share the oceans on a larger platform. On a personal level, it feels like my skills are being recognized by a larger organization, and that feels pretty awesome…kind of feels like ‘I’ve arrived’ in a way.”

Kevin Jairaj: Sports / Portrait / Wedding

Canon develops Terahertz device with potential use in Security, 6G and more

Canon develops terahertz device with compact size, world-highest output and potential use cases in security, 6G transmission and more

TOKYO, January 16, 2023—Canon Inc. announced today that the company has developed a terahertz device with a compact size and world's highest output1. Leveraging the semiconductor device design and manufacturing technology cultivated over its long history, the company has produced a device that realizes both high output and high directivity2. In the years to come, terahertz technology is expected to be widely used in such fields as next-generation sensing and data transmission.

Canon develops terahertz device with potential use cases in security, 6G transmission and more

Terahertz waves are a type of electromagnetic wave that possess a wavelength between that of radio waves and light while possessing characteristics of both. Compared with widely used X-rays, they are ideal for scanning underneath the surface of objects without causing harm to the human body. Thanks to such characteristics this technology is expected to be utilized in locations that experience heavy pedestrian traffic, such as entrances to amusement parks and event spaces, making possible security countermeasures with high throughput that do not disrupt the flow of pedestrian traffic. What's more, there is ongoing experimentation towards the use of terahertz waves in next-generation 6G signal transmission, and there is potential for use in high-speed, high-volume data transmission. The new device developed by Canon produces output that is stronger than terahertz waves and more easily directed, thus contributing to technological innovation and product development, including the aforementioned applications, in a wide range of fields, as well as assisting the development of industries and societies that utilize terahertz wave technology.

One of the most pressing issues for terahertz technology is that devices that generate terahertz waves require a high electrical output, and therefore large-sized components. Canon's newly developed semiconductor device, however, employs "Resonant-Tunneling Diodes (RTD)"3, which is characterized by the emission of terahertz waves from an "active antenna," i.e., an antenna that is integrated with a semiconductor device. Thus, there is no longer any need for frequency multipliers4 and other such components utilized in conventional devices, allowing for a device size that is approximately 1000x smaller5.

Thus far, creating compact devices that utilize RTDs results in lower output. However, Canon has successfully developed an active antenna array, which contains 36 active antennas on a single semiconductor chip, and is able to combine the output of all antennas, thereby making possible a world-highest output of approximately 10x6.

Another challenge facing terahertz wave technology is that terahertz waves emitted by antennas of conventional devices tend to disperse and thus cannot travel long distances. Canon's proprietary design technology has enabled the synchronization of all antennas in an antenna array. As a result, the company has achieved high directivity, approximately 20x7 that of a conventional single-antenna device, without the need for lenses or other optical technology. This in turn makes possible long-range imaging and signal transmission using a more compact device.

1Among 450 GHz output semiconductor devices. As of December 28, 2022. Based on Canon research.

2Directivity refers to the way in which the strength of an emitted electromagnetic signal or light varies depending on the direction. High directivity means that energy can be concentrated in a single direction.

3A diode that utilizes the phenomenon of tunneling through electron resonance walls originating from nanoscale structures of semiconductor devices. This compact electron device is capable of directly generating terahertz waves at room temperature.

4A device that converts and outputs input signal frequency to integer multiples.

5Comparison of device volume between Canon device and conventional devices such as those using antennas or frequency multipliers and conversion lenses.

6Comparison between a conventional single-antenna semiconductor device (approx. 1 mW) and new Canon device (approx. 11.8 mW). Based on Canon research.

7Comparison of antenna gain between a conventional single-antenna semiconductor device (non-synchronized, no lens, approx. 10dB) and new Canon device (synchronized, approx. 24dB). Based on Canon research. Antenna gain is a key performance parameter which indicates ability to accumulate and output signal strength depending on direction. A higher antenna gain means higher performance of the antenna. A difference of about 14dB in antenna gain corresponds to a difference of about 20 times in terms of strength.

About terahertz waves

Terahertz waves are electromagnetic waves, located on the frequency band between radio waves and light waves, that possess the strong penetration and directivity of light waves. Its frequency is defined as between 100 gigahertz (GHz) and 10 terahertz. Its properties make it potentially well-suited for security applications such as body scanning, non-destructive inspection of such surfaces as automobile paint coatings and use in next-generation 6G signal transmission.

Radio wave and light frequencies and their applications

About the currently-in-development terahertz device

Canon has successfully developed an active antenna array integrated with a semiconductor chip that is able to output terahertz waves. There is no need for such additional components as frequency multipliers, horn antennas8 or lenses, allowing for a device size that is approximately 1000x smaller. The device's more compact size enables the utilization of terahertz devices in cameras, smartphones and other electronic devices, thereby adding to the range of potential use cases for terahertz waves.

Comparison of conventional device with such components as frequency multipliers, horn antennas and new Canon terahertz device

Leveraging the semiconductor device design and manufacturing technology cultivated over its long history, Canon's active antenna array, which contains 36 active antennas on a single semiconductor chip, is able to combine the output of all antennas, thereby making possible a world-highest output of 450 GHz terahertz waves with a strength of 10 milliwatts (mW), or approximately 10x greater than conventional semiconductor devices with active antennas. This higher output enables image capture with greater clarity and signal transmission with greater accuracy.

Comparison of a conventional semiconductor device with an active antenna and the new Canon terahertz device

Using its proprietary antenna design technology, Canon has successfully synchronized 36 active antennas on the order of one picosecond (one trillionth of a second) accuracy. As a result, the company has achieved high directivity, approximately 20x that of an asynchronous antenna array, without the need for lenses, horn antennas or other optical technologies This in turn makes possible long-range imaging and signal transmission using a more compact device.

Comparison of an asynchronous antenna arrayconventional device and the new Canon terahertz device

Canon's proprietary high-frequency filter design counteracts noise, which is more likely to occur as the number of active antennas grows. As a result, electronic efficiency is approximately 1.4x that of conventional technology

8A trumpet-shaped antenna used for wireless communication.
9Compared of conventional RTD (approx. 0.7%) and Canon RTD (approx. 1%). Based on Canon research.

Example use case of new terahertz device: body scanning that doesn't disrupt flow of people

Real-time active imaging, using Canon's newly developed terahertz device, is capable of detecting and recognizing concealed weapons (including firearms and ceramic knives) underneath clothing of people walking past from a distance of several meters (for more information, please see the demo video below). In the near future, this technology is expected to be utilized in locations that experience heavy pedestrian traffic, such as entrances to amusement parks and event spaces, making possible security countermeasures with high throughput that do not disrupt the flow of pedestrian traffic.

MREAL, a mixed reality experience, utilizes Canon imaging technology to integrate real and virtual worlds, showing end-users what this type of integration can do for industry, education, medicine, entertainment, and more. MREAL is unlike anything Canon has ever developed, a premium visualizer/simulator that helps account for limits of scale, perception, analysis, and participation, and provides superb, almost life like image clarity and color accuracy.

The MREAL technology is currently in the market research phase in the USA, but an example of the technology can be seen in the Canon CES booth. Visitors to the booth will be able to experience a break-in scene from the movie Knock at the Cabin as if they are a character in the movie. A gamified experience gives CES attendees the ability to immerse themselves in the movie’s action. Users can interact with virtual furniture and other objects in order to barricade themselves inside the cabin and successfully keep intruders out.

Limitless Collaboration: AMLOS (Activate My Line of Sight)

The AMLOS (Activate My Line of Sight) solution* was developed by Canon U.S.A. to help amplify how people see and interact in hybrid meeting environments. The AMLOS solution is a software-and-camera product suite designed to provide an amazing level of engagement for collaboration across multiple meeting locations. The advanced software-and-camera product suite features sophisticated PTZ (pan, tilt, and zoom) camera functionality guided by hand gesture controls for certain actions for in-person participants. Remote users are given the flexibility to customize their viewing experience and to see objects or areas of the in-person space. This allows both in-person and remote participants to engage in meetings or collaborative discussions, with an intuitive experience with hand gesture controls for certain actions for in-person participants, and a user interface that can be customized by a remote participant to help promote collaboration.

Using AMLOS, CES attendees will connect with a stranger on the actual set of Knock at the Cabin located in Philadelphia. They will work together to investigate the aftermath of events from the movie while creating their own stories on what could have happened in the cabin. Canon worked with M. Night Shyamalan to develop clues that will be placed throughout the space for participants to discover, varying from handwritten notes to broken furniture and more, adding to the mystery of the movie’s events.
