This Time It’s Personal 2022 exhibition showcases top Australian photographers’ passion projects for a good cause at SUNSTUDIOS
Sydney, AUSTRALIA – 25 November 2022: SUNSTUDIOS, backed by Canon Australia, today opens to the public its 11th annual This Time It’s Personal 2022 exhibition. Showcasing the best in Australian photography talent, the exhibition provides a glimpse into what professionals shoot for love alone with all art works donated by the artists available for purchase at a discounted rate. Curated this year by Nicky Catley, Group Picture Editor at Australian Geographic, the showcase will feature 64 unique photographs with 100% of print sale proceeds donated to the GO Foundation. Founded by Adam Goodes and Michael O’Loughlin, the GO Foundation seeks to create opportunities for Indigenous youth through education and bespoke scholarship programs.
Each photograph exhibited is brought to life using SUNSTUDIOS’ state-of-the-art Canon print facilities and print specialist, Selena Simpson, who strives to match the artist’s intention as closely as possible while also delivering a stunning piece of artwork.
Luke Harrison, Head of SUNSTUDIOS commented, “Art has the ability to connect and inspire individuals, and as Sydney’s arts and culture scene continues its revival, we are thrilled to see the return of the exhibition after close to two years. The exhibition provides a truly unique opportunity to view and purchase high quality artwork by the industry’s best photographers including Hugh Stewart, Emily Abay, Gary Heery and Vicki Lee, at affordable prices and for an important cause. We are incredibly grateful to the talented artists who have kindly donated their works.”
This Time It’s Personal Curator and Group Picture Editor at Australian Geographic, Nicky Catley, says of the exhibition, “The ‘big pause’ in the world of commercial photography as a result of the COVID pandemic, led many commercial photographers to reflect and turn inward, driving new personal work. During lockdowns photographers were stuck in their homes and many became hyper aware of nature, the rhythms of the weather and turned to documenting the minutiae of their everyday lives. Others had time to revisit archives and explore new directions. I am honoured to be curator of this year’s show after such a fruitful period for this kind of vulnerable, intimate, playful and experimental work. Thank you to all the generous photographers for sharing their beautiful art and providing the opportunity to give back to the community.”

EOS R6 Mark II – Ultra High-Speed 4K Hybrid Full Frame EOS R mirrorless camera with Advanced Auto Focus and In Body Image Stabilization
Made for: Advanced Photo Amateurs and content creators
Best for: Travel, Wildlife, Sports, transportation photography and Video creation
Ultra High Speed, High Resolution and High Image Quality
EOS R6 Mark II is equipped with Canon’s newly developed high-speed 24.2MP Canon full-frame CMOS Sensor combined with high-speed DIGIC X digital image processor, making it capable of providing up to approximately 40FPS[4] high-speed continuous shooting with electronic shutter[5] (or up to 12FPS[6] with mechanical shutter) with Auto Focus/ Auto Exposure Tracking, the camera can capture the split-second details between a subject’s movements. The EOS R6 Mark II offers a maximum 1/16000 second for electronic shutter, effectively freezing images of fast-moving objects while in motion, and support shooting Long Exposure (Bulb). The newly added RAW burst mode[7] (supports Auto Focus/ Auto Exposure Tracking) uses the electronic shutter to record a sequence of RAW images. It can record RAW images at up to 30 fps with the full 24.2-megapixel sensor resolution on the EOS R6 Mark II. When “Pre-shooting” function is enabled, it can also capture images 0.5 seconds before the shutter button is even pressed. This is convenient for wildlife photography that targets sudden movements of subjects — such as the moment when a bird takes flight, for example.
Benefited from the DIGIC X digital image processor, EOS R6 Mark II also realizes a wide standard ISO range of 100-102400, expandable to ISO 204800, to help deliver low-noise, high-quality images even in low-light situations.
EOS R6 Mark II incorporates In-Body Image Stabilization and provides up to 8-stop shake compensation[8]. The In-Body Image Stabilizer provides 5-axis stabilization for photo and movie shooting and coordinates with RF lenses with Optical Image Stabilizer to enable more effective stabilization.
EOS R6 Mark II features High Frequency Anti-Flicker Shooting (50.0Hz to 8192.0Hz), inherited from EOS R3, to accommodate shooting with LED lighting[9].
EOS R6 Mark II, like many EOS products, supports HDR PQ photo and video shooting. The HEIF images shot by the EOS R6 Mark II can be converted to JPEG in batches in the camera, and it is also compatible with Digital Photo Professional (Windows version only), making adjustments after shooting easier. The latest [Moving Subject] HDR mode has been added to it. Subject such as People, animals, and vehicles, etc., will have different positions due to movement between the three HDR shots. Now, a single shot can express a wide range of gradients. As monitors and TVs that support HDR 10 become more and more popular, EOS R6 Mark II is the best choice to try to explore the world of HDR and enjoy shooting images in different ways.
The digital tele-converter of the EOS R6 Mark II can take digitally processed 2.0x or 4.0x photos, allowing users to obtain telephoto effects without changing the lens[10]. By customizing the digital teleconverter function to the M.Fn button or the depth-of-field preview button, etc., it is also possible to switch to the digital teleconverter instantly while using the electronic viewfinder.
EOS R6 Mark II also incorporates new imaging functions to expand creative expression. The first one is the Panorama Shot (SCN mode), which captures breath-taking high resolution panorama shot images in-camera. Continuous shooting is performed while panning and a panoramic image is automatically generated. The in-body IS corrects panning blur, so the resulting image is clear and natural. The second new feature added is in-camera “Depth Composition” function which automatically merges focus bracketed images taken with focus bracketing into an image that is clearly in focus from front to back, allowing users to check the composition results on site.
Moreover, Canon has developed a new “Cloud RAW Development”[11] service, which uses image processing algorithm developed through “deep learning" technology to process RAW images into JPEG/HEIF images with enhanced image quality.
More advanced subject recognition and tracking auto focus
With Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, EOS R6 Mark II offers extensive autofocus coverage at up to 100% [12]of the entire image area and 1053 AF zones[13], making precise focusing and tracking of subjects possible even when they move to the edge of the frame and allows for greater compositional freedom. Featuring a minimum AF brightness down to EV -6.5[14], EOS R6 Mark II is able to perform stable Servo AF even under low-light conditions.
EOS R6 Mark II features EOS iTR[15] AF X inherited from EOS R3, its AF algorithm developed using Deep Learning technology provides high performance Subject Recognition and AF tracking of people, animals[16] and vehicles[17] In addition to enhanced eye detection. Subjects like horses, trains, and airplanes are newly detectable. Vehicle Detection is enhanced to cover train (high speed trains, conventional trains and steam locomotives) and airplane (jet planes and helicopters) in addition to motorsports (automobiles and motorcycles). With Spot detection setting, the driver cab of high speed train or cockpit of airplane can be detected. Animal detection now supports detection of horses (racing horses, zebra and ponies etc) even with rider. Enhanced feature for Eye Detection AF is added options for right-eye priority or left-eye priority.
For more ease of use, Auto mode is now available for subject detection, in which the camera automatically selects the type of subject (people, animals or vehicles) without the need to switch the Subject Detection setting in the menu.Improved AF tracking performance even subject change posture or brightness change by applying deep learning technology to extract subject features during subject tracking, which applies to animals, vehicles and any other subject selected by users.
EOS R6 Mark II also adopted EOS R3’s advanced tracking system that allows simply “grabbing” the parts of a subject to be tracked using the 1-point AF or zone AF for the camera to determine the optimum tracking position and perform subject detection and tracking. “Whole Area Tracking Servo AF” Subject tracking is now possible from any one of the 8 AF Area modes, including 1-point AF or Flexible Zone AF.
During AF or continuous shooting Tracking subject can be turned on or off and “Whole Area Tracking Servo AF” can be turned on or off during AF or continuous shooting to meet the needs of shooting. Flexible Zone AF which allows customization of AF Area has also been added to bring even greater freedom in photography.
New EOS Movie features to optimize workflow for small production and content creators
EOS R6 Mark II is equipped with professional EOS Movie capability is perfect for small production crew and online content creators. It supports a variety of 4K recording formats including high-quality non-cropped 4K UHD 50p/60p (6K oversampling) IPB movies, and cropped 4K UHD 50p/60p IPB movies. It supports external recording of non-cropped 6K (6000 x 3374) 50p/60p 10-bit ProRes RAW Movie or cropped 3.7K (3744 x 2106) 50p/60p 12-bit ProRes RAW Movie via HDMI[18]. Both offer more post-production latitude than Canon Log 3 and can be used for higher-end production applications. A FHD 50p/60p Canon Log 3 4:2:2 10-bit Proxy can be recorded to Card 2 simultaneously which helps simplify the RAW movie production process. In addition, the new camera can record FHD 150p/180p high-frame movies without cropping to make 6x slow-motion movies, so as to record smooth and dramatic slow-motion movies.
Taking advantage of the increased CMOS sensor readout speed, the rolling shutter distortion of 4K 25p/30p movie has been reduced by approximately 40%[19].
EOS R6 Mark II has added a new Focus Breathing Correction[20] feature, which can correct the focus breathing phenomenon according to the optical design value of the compatible lens, and correct the change of the angle of view caused by the change of the focus distance, so that the user can suppress the focus breathing for high-quality movie recording.
EOS R6 Mark II also supports 10-bit Canon Log 3 and 10-bit HDR PQ (Rec. ITU-R BT.2100(PQ)) H.265 Movie for use in high-contrast scenes and fast-paced situations. 10-bit Canon Log 3 offers a wider dynamic range and precise highlights for high-contrast scenes and HDR movies. It is also compatible with Cinema Gamut which offers a wide colour space for perfect integration with the professional Cinema EOS System. HDR PQ movies with higher brightness, wider tonal range and wider colour gamut can deliver realistic images with only minimal colour grading is necessary. With simplified post-production workflow, it is useful for time demanding environment and can be viewed conveniently on HDR-compatible screens. Uncompressed 4K YCbCr 4:2:2 10-bit 60P HDR (Rec. ITU-R BT.2100(PQ)) HDMI output is also supported[21], ensuring seamless integration with filmmaking industry equipment and workflows.
The “Detection Only” option is newly added to Movie Servo AF, which operates AF only when subject is detected. When the camera detects a subject specified in Subjects to detect within the frame, autofocus and subject tracking are automatically performed. If the subject cannot be detected, the camera waits for the subject to appear before starting autofocus. Even when the subject leaves the frame or is covered in the frame, the user does not have to manually stop and start autofocus, and can focus more on composition and panning operations.
EOS R6 Mark II is also the first time in EOS to add new functions inherited from the Cinema EOS system to improve shooting efficiency. Adding the pre-recording function from Cinema EOS for the first time, the EOS R6 Mark II can record the screen 5 seconds or 3 seconds before the user presses the video shooting button. This function enables new shooting methods, such as recording a scene that appears suddenly or waiting for a scene change without continuous recording. This reduces the recording of unnecessary clip data, thereby saving data storage space and reducing editing workload, among other advantages. Users can also use Camera Connect to operate pre-recording, which can greatly reduce the workload of finding suitable scenes during editing.
EOS R6 Mark II is equipped with the false color function that is widely used in the Cinema EOS System. Since exposure can be intuitively adjusted, shooting efficiency is improved. If using EOS R6 Mark II as a sub-camera for the Cinema EOS camcorder, the same function can be used to adjust the exposure, making it easy to use both cameras. Zebra display function is also available. Button customization enables quick recall of both functions, allowing the user to check exposure conditions whenever needed.
Moreover, aspect markers (such as: 2.35:1, 1:1, 9:16) are added to match the aspect ratio of the screen of the movie-posting destination when shooting on the premise of uploading the data to a certain social media site to display the aspect ratio mark on the screen when shooting. This makes it easy to determine the intended composition while shooting and reduces the burden of editing after shooting. EOS R6 Mark II also features an optional Cinema EOS-style Quick Control Screen, which is convenient to use with Cinema EOS. The same quick control screen as in the EOS C100 Mark II user interface is specially added to the screen operation. Users can select it by pressing the Q key, so that they can quickly switch to the desired display style. Both Cinema EOS users and EOS R users can easily share one EOS R6 Mark II.
EOS R6 Mark II can now change the autofocus area setting and white balance setting like Cinema EOS during movie shooting, and can also perform white balance correction. Therefore, users can also choose a shooting style during single-person operation to adapt to changing situations while continuing to shoot. At the same time, in response to the needs of users for shooting, EOS R6 Mark II has also added a record emphasis function. When recording, a flashing red frame will be displayed on the screen, so that it can be seen at a glance that the video is being recorded.
In order to facilitate live streaming for users, EOS R6 Mark II is newly compatible with UVC/UAC specifications, no additional adapter is required, and it is more convenient to output high-quality FHD 30p video via USB for live streaming or online conferences[22]. When connected via UVC/UAC, " AF for close up demos " is available When the user picks up an object to make a review or display in front of the camera, the auto focus will focus on the displayed object. It is convenient for users to introduce products in live streaming.
The camera’s professional movie capability is paired with excellent focus control and seamless workflows. EOS R6 Mark II’s Movie Servo AF and Subject Tracking AF are available in all video formats. Movie Servo AF is able to track people, animal and vehicle subjects, ensuring sharp focusing on all times for high-quality movie result. Maximum continuous movie recording time has been extended from 29min 59sec to 6 hours. Continuous recording of non-cropped 4K UHD 50p/60p movie for 40mins or longer possible. Recording MP4 movie to multiple cards are now supported, ideal for instant backup. Moreover, the built-in internal Stereo Microphone is newly equipped with “Audio Noise Reduction”[23] feature that reduce focus noise and white noise to provide a better sound recording quality. The noise reduction effect can be monitored via headphone terminal output. The camera also supports digital sound recording via the Multi-Function Shoe for high-quality sound.
Uncompromised Operability and Connectivity
EOS R6 Mark II features a high precision 0.5-inch 3.69M-dot 0.76x OLED electronic viewfinder with up to 120FPS display frame rate. With the “OVF simulation view assist” function originated from EOS R3, EOS R6 Mark II is able to reproduce the view of an SLR optical viewfinder by displaying more natural highlights and dark gradations with high brightness level of EVF and Canon HDR technology. It also features a 3-inch 1.62 M-dot side-opening Vari-angle Clear View II LCD Touch Monitor offers greater flexibility and convenience for more challenging low or high angles.
To enhance the operability of EOS R6 Mark II, the power switch is moved to the right side of the camera, which is convenient for quick operation after picking up the camera. Even if the camera is powered off, the user can immediately perform power operation after picking up the camera. Camera start-up time is as fast as 0.4 seconds[24]. A new photo/video mode switching switch has been added to the top left of the fuselage, which is convenient for users to quickly switch between photo and video modes. Newly shaped Multi-controller to make pressing the center button easier, enables more functions to be operated.
The “Dial Function” setting has been arranged in two rows instead of one row and the settings can be changed with the main dial and quick control dial respectively. In addition, since the dial function setting screen can be superimposed on the scene in the viewfinder, users can quickly change the settings even during shooting. In addition, in order to match the shooting of different scenes, users can now use the wireless remote control BR-E1 to perform high-speed continuous shooting.
When it comes to camera body design, EOS R6 Mark II features a rigid and lightweight magnesium alloy chassis with high level of dust and water resistance[25] design and only weighs 588g (670g with batteries and memory card).
When connected to Wi-Fi, the printers determine the strength of the signal and security – when there are multiple access points, they will automatically connect to the one with the best security and data condition, ensuring smooth connections at all times. With various countermeasures – including WPA3-SAE, WPA3-EAP(AES) and TLS 1.3 encryption – MAXIFY GX3050 and MAXIFY GX4050 mitigate the risk of unauthorised access and data leakage through increased security.
Diverse media support for printing
Posters, POS and other paperboard prints that would have traditionally been outsourced can now be produced via the MAXIFY GX3050 and MAXIFY GX4050, reducing overall costs of promotional materials for small businesses. To support in-house business printing, both devices are now compatible with diverse media applications, including paperboard printing via the brand new rear flat tray. PosterArtist Web can be used to create posters with no professional design skills required – templates, auto-design and free stock photos help create attractive end results. It is available via a web browser online, so editing can be done anytime, anywhere.
Today, alongside MAXIFY GX3050 and MAXIFY GX4050, Canon expands its MegaTank range further with the PIXMA MegaTank range – featuring four new fast, high-quality, refillable ink tank printers, ideal for families wanting to make savings on home printing.

• PIXMA G4570 : a high-speed 4-in-1 printer with Automatic Document Feeder (ADF), with WiFi
• PIXMA G3570 Series : a 3-in-1 multifunction printer (MFP), with WiFi – available in three colours

Low-running costs
The updated range features four cost-effective printers – capable of producing high volumes of quality documents and photos without the worry of having to change ink cartridges. Anchored by a continuous ink supply system, running costs are streamlined in comparison to cartridge-based printers. Thanks to the high-yield ink tanks, all four models can produce 6,000 sheets from a single black ink bottle1 – with 27 per cent more in economy mode2 (7,600 sheets). For printing in colour, the latest MegaTank models offer an impressive page yield of up to 7,700 pages from a set of colour ink bottles3 (8,100 in economy mode). Ideal for busy families wanting a cost-effective printer that delivers high-quality prints when needed. The printers use both pigment-based and dye-based ink, allowing for sharp black text and vibrant, colourful images.
High-speed productivity
All four models in the range deliver fast printing speeds of 11.0 ipm for black (mono) printing and 6.0 ipm for colour – quicker than the printers’ predecessors. Reliable and speedy printing means users can focus their time and energy on other creative outputs, printing with confidence to deliver high-quality prints in impressive volumes. Producing sharp, crisp prints, the range satisfies a versatile mix of requirements, from productive students who may need to print text-heavy essays, to those embracing home crafts with their families. For those working from home, the PIXMA G4570 features a 35-sheet automatic document feeder (ADF) to scan and copy multi-page documents quickly, helping to improve productivity.
Easy operation for all the family
Featuring a new, easy-to-use design with straightforward functionality, the PIXMA G2570, PIXMA G3570 Series and PIXMA G4570 include LCD panels for operation and easy installation. With Canon’s MegaTank ink technology, all printers in the series are easy to maintain and use. Printer downtime is kept to a minimum, thanks to the user-replaceable maintenance cartridge alongside the mechanical ID no-squeeze ink bottles.
The WiFi enabled PIXMA G4570 and PIXMA G3570 Series models allow users to effortlessly connect, thanks to compatibility with Apple AirPrint and Mopria® for Android, as well as the Canon PRINT app for printing from your smart device. In addition, for those looking for creative inspiration, Canon’s Creative Park allows users to unleash their inner artist by making 3D paper crafts as well as personalised cards – with the ability to print on magnetic and matte photo paper, across the range. The PIXMA G3570 Series is available in three colour variations – black, white and red.

Amazing Engagement for Hybrid Collaboration with Canon AMLOS Solution
Experience an Amazing Level of Engagement for Hybrid Collaboration with the AMLOS (Activate My Line of Sight) Solution – Now Available from Canon U.S.A., Inc.
The company enters the online video communications space with a new solution designed to amplify how people see, engage, and interact in hybrid work environments
MELVILLE, N.Y., November 16, 2022 — With the shift to remote and hybrid work accelerated during the pandemic, Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, sought out ways to leverage their expertise in imaging technology to help hybrid work teams stay engaged with one another and well-connected despite being in different locations. With growing demand for technologies that support hybrid environments, Canon U.S.A., is now entering the online video communications business by announcing the official availability of the AMLOS (Activate My Line of Sight) solution.
Developed by Canon U.S.A., to help support high productivity and employee engagement, the AMLOS solution is a software-and-camera product suite designed to support modern hybrid meetings. The AMLOS solution is an additional layer on top of an organization’s existing, compatible conference solution.1 It allows both in-person and remote participants to engage in meetings, providing an intuitive experience with hand gesture controls for in-person participants, and a user interface that can be customized by a remote participant to help promote collaboration. The AMLOS solution consists of software and a Canon CR-N300 or CR-N500 PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) camera.
“Through the launch of the AMLOS solution, Canon acknowledges hybrid working as a core component of the work environment and what it can and will look like going forward,” said Keith Kmetz, program vice president, imaging, printing & document solutions, IDC. “The solution looks to improve the current collaborative experience between in-office and remote staff by leveraging its well-known camera brand equity into an opportunity to impact the hybrid work model.”
Pre-launch activities have generated interest from many organizations in various industries– including those in the technology space, education sector, creative agencies and the entertainment industry. Within this year, the AMLOS solution was showcased at well-known tradeshows, including CES, NAB, and InfoComm - earning both the attention of attendees and accolades from certain tradeshow organizations. Canon U.S.A. also worked with HITRECORD and actor/producer Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who used the AMLOS solution to collaborate with hundreds of in-person and remote attendees to create an animated short film at CES 2022.
“The AMLOS solution from Canon is an exciting step forward in the hybrid work experience,” said Bob Serr, VP of Microsoft’s Azure Communication Services. “With enhanced visuals and seamless connectivity powered by Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Teams, remote colleagues can collaborate even more effectively, together.”
The AMLOS solution is now available through Canon U.S.A., Inc.’s authorized channel partners. The software is currently available for a $150 monthly subscription fee per room (MSRP).1 Each customer will also need to purchase one of the following Canon PTZ cameras per room: a CR-N300 for longer zoom range or a CR-N500 for a wider angle of view and better low light performance.2 Service and support and additional third-party solutions are required, for which additional fees apply.1

Canon Recognized by Forbes as an Top American Employer for Veterans 2022
Canon U.S.A., Inc. Recognized by Forbes as One of America's Best Employers for Veterans in 2022
MELVILLE, NY, November 16, 2022 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, is proud to announce that Forbes has recognized Canon as one of America’s Best Employers for Veterans 2022. Forbes and Statista Inc. announced Canon’s inclusion in this prestigious ranking of companies this month. The list is now live on the Forbes website.
Forbes and Statista selected America's Best Employers for Veterans 2022 based on independent surveys of roughly 7,000 U.S. veterans working part-time or full-time for companies employing at least 1,000 people within the U.S. The evaluation was based on direct and indirect recommendations from employees that were asked to rate their willingness to recommend their own employers to friends and family. Employee evaluations also included other employers in their respective industries that stood out either positively or negatively. Furthermore, participants were asked to give their opinion on a series of statements related to general topics regarding their own employer, for example: atmosphere & development, image, working conditions, salary & wage, workplace, diversity, and a set of topics related specifically to the interests of veterans in the workplace.
“Canon is honored to be recognized as one of our country’s best employers for veterans,” N. Scott Millar, senior vice president & general manager, corporate human resources, audit, ethics & business consultation, Canon U.S.A., Inc., and senior vice president, human resources, Canon Solutions America, Inc. “We are proud to support our veterans, as well as their families, and we would like to thank Forbes and Statista for this outstanding accolade.”
According to Statista, the title America's Best Employers for Veterans 2022 serves to reinforce Canon’s reputation as a company that provides excellent employment opportunities for U.S veterans. Dan Schultz is a U.S. veteran, and has now been part of the Canon team for nearly 20 years.
“I joined the military for the opportunities to obtain a world-class education, serve my country, lead like-minded people, and gain exposure to people, places, and cultures throughout the world,” said Dan Schultz, senior logistics director, Canon U.S.A., Inc. “In the military, and in business, mission and objective accomplishments are always at the forefront. Pursuing the harder right, rather than the easier compromise, is a trait I developed in the military and it has continued to serve me well throughout my career at Canon.”

Canon to assist Veterans with Photography Skills
Veterans utilize their expertise – and Canon cameras & printers – as part of photography course for fellow former service members
Canon cameras used to help veterans improve their photography skills as part of specially designed courses at Santa Barbara City College
MELVILLE, NY, November 9, 2022 - The branches of the United States military stress the importance of duty and assisting fellow service members. For many veterans, that sentiment extends after being discharged from active duty. For brothers Bill and Steven Espinosa – Vietnam War veterans who served in the Army and Navy, respectively – that desire to help has led them to teach a photography course for fellow veterans in a class offered through Santa Barbara City College in California.
The introductory course – “Digital Photography: Techniques and Creative Applications in a Community-Oriented Setting” – gives students access to digital single-lens reflex cameras (DSLRs), with many using this type of camera for the first time. Canon has provided multiple EOS Rebel T6 cameras for the class and is in the process of loaning other equipment in continuing to offer resources to take the best photos possible while also being able to produce their work on Canon imagePROGRAF photographic printers.
Both Bill and Steven began as students in the class, which was started by Terence Ford and his fStop Foundation, whose goal was to offer digital photography instruction to veterans and first responders at Santa Barbara City College’s Wake Campus. Ford, the brother of actor Harrison Ford, had worked in commercial photography and the film industry in Los Angeles for decades before starting the photography class.
“It’s important to provide an opportunity for veterans to reconnect and both offer and receive peer support to develop a community where everyone feels engaged,” said Ford said, whose program was also embedded at Camp Pendleton’s Wounded Warrior Battalion West and four years at the Pathway Home at the Soldiers Home in Yountville, California. “Programs such as these photography classes allows veterans to learn new skills while forging social connections, creating a strong community.”
The class proved popular and soon the brothers became part of the Veteran Photography Program. That initiative has made an impact on the lives of former service members, both in the class and in the larger community.
Some of the students in the course have selected their best work from the semester, and printed and framed the photos to decorate Johnson Court, an affordable housing development that serves the Santa Barbara homeless veteran population. The photographs were printed via Canon Professional large format printers , including the 24-inch imagePROGRAF PRO 2100 and the 17-inch Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 printers. In total, 20 photos taken on Canon cameras were selected, professionally printed and framed. The veterans living in Johnson Court then selected which ones they wanted to decorate their unit.
Steven Espinosa, who worked 31 years as a firefighter for the Santa Barbara City Fire Department, and Bill Espinosa helped raise more than $3,500 towards the endeavor.
“It wouldn’t be possible if we didn't have Canon support and we’re really appreciative of their efforts,” said Bill Espinosa, who used the GI bill to help earn a MBA degree that launched a varied career in planning “We’re so thankful for Santa Barbara City College having this program and for all the organizations who were kind enough to contribute.”
Steven Espinosa said the response was positive and he is hopeful that the success of the program could lead to expansion, and that the photos decorating units at Johnson Court will inspire some of the veterans living there to sign up for a future course.
“So far, we’ve kept the classes small, and this semester it includes 12 students,” he said. “There is a lot of one-on-one work and if we had a big class or we had to do it remotely, it wouldn’t work as well. But we do eventually want to extend it to first responders and feel that would be a great step forward.”
Santa Barbara City College is also a Canon Solutions America customer within the enterprise group.
Santa Barbara City College’s School of Extended Learning is looking to expand the program by inviting first responders or retired first responders to enroll in the free course beginning in January 2023. Registration will open on December 15. To register please email either Bill Espinosa - wespinosa@pipeline.sbcc.edu or Steve Espinosa - spespinosa@pipeline.sbcc.edu.

New Canon EOS R6 Mark II - Fastest EOS R System Camera
Never compromise your creativity: master stills and motion with the high-speed EOS R6 Mark II
London, United Kingdom, 2nd November 2022 – Canon today announces the EOS R6 Mark II, its fastest advanced full-frame mirrorless camera to date, expanding the pioneering EOS R System – offering 40fps, stunning low-light AF and 6K RAW / 4K UHD movies, all built on the RF Mount. As the newest model in the range for hybrid creators, the EOS R6 Mark II utilises the powerful foundations of the RF Mount and redefines standards set by the EOS R6. For both stills and movie, it raises the bar with its unique blend of class-leading performance, breath-taking speed, stability and professional filmmaking features.
Unrivalled sharpness
Using the same DIGIC X processor technology – which was at the core of the EOS R5, EOS R6 and coveted EOS-1D X Mark III – alongside the camera’s new 24.2 megapixel CMOS sensor, the EOS R6 Mark II supports renowned next generation Dual Pixel CMOS AF II pushing speed and reliability to unmatched levels.
The EOS R6 Mark II can track subjects keeping them sharp as they move through a scene. Using improved deep-learning artificial intelligence, it recognises people, vehicles1- which now includes aircraft and trains – and animals which has been updated to recognise horses/ zebras2. The type of subject to be detected can be chosen in the menu, or using the new Auto option depending on the range of scenarios the photographer is shooting in. With advance eye tracking, users can specify which eye (left or right) should be given focus priority, and when the eyes can’t be detected, the EOS R6 Mark II focuses on the face in shot instead. Even if a person turns away for a moment, their head continues to be tracked, and if the head isn’t visible the camera will go on to track the body.
The EOS R6 Mark II boasts the world’s most effective IS performance, with its up to 8-stop3Image Stabilizer. Using the combined IS, optical and in-body – it can shoot long exposures, handheld with extreme clarity and sharpness. Photographers can also capture the ambience, whatever the conditions – focusing shake-free in light levels as low as -6.5EV4, and the ability to shoot up to ISO 102,400.
Next generation speed for the EOS R System
Setting new speed records, the EOS R6 Mark II is Canon’s fastest EOS to date5. It can shoot continuously at up to 40fps6- with 20fps and 5fps options with electronic shutter – and up to 12fps mechanically, capturing fleeting moments that are barely perceptible to the human eye. Compared to the EOS R6, the new sensor reduces rolling shutter, allowing the camera’s electronic shutter to be used to freeze fast-moving objects.
Additionally, the EOS R6 Mark II keeps pace with photographers’ needs, recording action before shooting starts, with ½ a second pre-shooting in RAW Burst mode – a great advantage when shooting unpredictable subjects, from tennis players to toddlers. The RAW Burst mode shoots continuously at 30fps for up to 191 frames, recording every image in a single CR3 file; all with AF tracking. Individual images can be extracted from this roll using Canon’s Digital Photo Professional software, or in camera, and saved as individual JPEG, HEIF or RAW files.
Meeting demand with evolved video capabilities
Using the full width of the sensor, the EOS R6 Mark II is the only camera in its class7that can shoot 4K 60p UHD, with simultaneous Dual Pixel CMOS AF II focusing. All 4k footage is created by oversampling the sensor’s 6K output, resulting in superb image quality. For independent filmmakers wanting even higher performance, the EOS R6 Mark II outputs 6K RAW via its HDMI output, which can be recorded on an Atomos Ninja V+ recorder in ProRes RAW. This provides more detail, as well as the ability to adjust parameters such as white balance in post-production.
Creators can activate movie pre-recording mode of 3 or 5 seconds – when on, video is continuously streamed through the camera in standby enabling the capture of action even before you press record. Ideal for unmissable moments, or unpredictable scenes.
The EOS R6 Mark II features an improved circuit design allowing longer recording times, over 40 minutes of oversampled 4K 60p recording or up to 6 hours at 4k 30p8, - with the previous 29.59 maximum recording time removed - depending on ambient temperature, memory card space and battery life.
Enabling content creators and filmmakers to meet the increasing demand to produce both stunning still and moving image, the innovative EOS R6 Mark II can output incredible slow-motion footage with AF support using Full HD at up to 179.82fps. During movie shooting, False colour can be used as a guide to exposure adjustment, particularly useful in conditions that typically result in overexposed highlights. With HDR support via PQ, as well as Canon’s popular Canon Log 3, creators can capture breath-taking, true-to-life video and realise greater expressive possibilities – immersing the viewer in the content. When used with supported lenses9, the EOS R6 Mark II also uses focus-breathing correction to compensate for the effects of focus breathing, providing a cinematic effect.
Intelligent connection for content delivery
With updated Bluetooth v.5 and Wi-Fi (5GHz), the EOS R6 Mark II can be easily connected to a smartphone and networks allowing high-speed file sharing and FTP/FTPS/SFTP transfer – making it easy to edit and share, even when on the move. The camera can also be remotely controlled using the Camera Connect and EOS Utility apps, tethered to a PC, Mac or smartphone via Wi-Fi or high-speed USB-C. For semi-professional photographers and content creators, content delivery is just as important as image and video capture – the EOS R6 Mark II supports automatic transfer of image files from the device to the image.canon cloud platform to easily share and print images.
The EOS R6 Mark II can be used as a webcam on PC and Mac computers running video-call apps such as Skype, Zoom and Teams, without having to install additional software. This plug-and-play capability is powered by industry-standard USB Video Class (UVC) and USB Audio Class (UAC) drivers that are built into Windows and MacOS operating systems. The camera provides improved image quality compared with standard computer webcams, perfect for making a great impression when on video-calls online.
An extension of the creators’ creativity
Allowing seamless navigation with trusted ergonomics, existing EOS and EOS R System series users will be comfortable handling the EOS R6 Mark II. Featuring a multi-function shoe with a next-generation interface, the EOS R6 Mark II enables a new series of accessories to be used including the newly launched SPEEDLITE EL-5. These accessories can be used without the need for cables, and in some cases batteries.
Its body offers the durability expected from Canon, withstanding adverse weather conditions. The high-resolution 3.69M dot EVF offers a crystal clear view when taking photos or video, as it refreshes at 120fps – alongside this, EOS R6 Mark II has inherited the Optical View Finder view assist feature from the EOS R3, providing a natural-looking display retaining detail in shadows and highlights, with good visibility in dark areas and gradation. The EOS R6 Mark II is also compatible with the same LP-E6 batteries and battery grip as the EOS R6, but with the benefit of battery life being increased by approx. 50% using the LCD screen.
Canon Camera Connect App
Alongside the EOS R6 Mark II, Canon is announcing an update to its Camera Connect App which delivers a fresh new look and feel, as well as enhanced connectivity and a simple user experience. The v.3 update makes the app a central portal, enabling users to easily access other Canon software and services, such as the print app or image.canon cloud service. From the app, Canon users can connect their camera to a smartphone or tablet to act as a remote control, or fine tune images, download or share them while on the move and even download firmware updates for their camera10.
Also launching today is the RF 135mm F1.8L IS USM, a telephoto prime lens ideal for shooting portraits in low-light and the SPEEDLITE EL-5, a high-performance Speedlite for capturing weddings and events.
