Canon Launches the RF 5.2mm f/2.8L Dual Fisheye Lens in Hong Kong

Canon Launches the RF 5.2mm f/2.8L Dual Fisheye Lens in Hong Kong
Canon Officially Launches the RF 5.2mm f/2.8L Dual Fisheye with the New EOS VR System

Efficient and simplified workflow for making your VR journey

HONG KONG, 30th December 2021—Canon announces the new RF 5.2mm f/2.8L Dual Fisheye is now available for sale. It plays an important role in the EOS VR system, forming a triune virtual reality system for shooting and producing 180o VR images[1] with compatible EOS cameras[2] and remote shooting and format conversion applications. When the content creators install the RF 5.2mm f/2.8L Dual Fisheye lens on the EOS R5 mirrorless camera, the lens allows users to take full advantage of the camera’s 8K[3] movie shooting function and generate 3D 180o VR video with ultra-high-definition immersive video through the parallax between the two lenses. By launching this system, Canon hopes to meet the needs of a wide range of users ranging from VR content creators, professional VR productions to new users who have just started their VR video production journey.

Excellent Optical Design offering outstanding performance

RF 5.2mm f/2.8L Dual Fisheye is equipped with 2 Fisheye Lenses (Left and Right). Each lens incorporates an innovative 12 elements in 10 groups folder optics design, which features 2 prisms that folds the optical path to provide images with natural parallax with a baseline length of 60 mm in a camera with a full-frame sensor (36mm x 24mm). This enables using this interchangeable lens with compatible camera for simple and straightforward 3D VR shooting without the need for any special purpose camera, significantly simplifying the 3D VR production workflow. The lens covers a 190o wide angle of view and adopts Equidistant projection design, which is ideally suitable for VR shooting. Benefited from the large-diameter RF Mount and short back focus, a lens construction optimized for a folded optical path and effective placement of 2 UD lenses in the final lens group, the lens aberrations have been effectively suppressed and achieved a high image quality from corner to corner.

High Efficient VR shooting

The RF 5.2mm f/2.8L Dual Fisheye can shoot 3D 180o VR images through the parallax between the left and right fisheye lens images. Using the lens with the EOS R5[1] enables the output of high definition 8K 180o VR footage[3]. It allows content creators to easily shoot high-quality 3D VR videos with strong immersive experience. Since the light that enters each “eye” of the lens can be recorded with just one CMOS image sensor. This removes the need to adjust multiple camera positions and synchronizing settings before the shoot, or to stitch images together in post-production, thereby streamlining the production workflow.

In terms of controllability, the RF 5.2mm f/2.8L Dual Fisheye uses manual focus operation. Its large manual focus ring operates smoothly with good damping. The manual focus ring is connected to the focus structure of both the left and right lenses, allowing the left and right images to focus simultaneously. The most suitable three-dimensional subject distance range for shooting 180o VR videos is between 0.5m and 2m. Shooting in this range can make the subject more prominent and bring a more intense and immersive experience. In addition, both the left and right lenses are equipped with an Electro-magnetic Diaphragm (EMD) to electronically control the aperture diameter simultaneously to ensure consistent exposure of the left and right images. The lens also equipped with a rear gelatin filter holder to facilitate the installation of the ND filter. This makes it possible to control exposure even during daytime outdoor shoots and other high-contrast situations where the shutter speed might unintentionally speed up and helps to ensure smooth video effect with proper shutter speed.

The first lens element of the RF 5.2mm f/2.8L Dual Fisheye features the revolutionary Canon “Sub-Wavelength structure Coating” (SWC) with excellent anti-glare capability, which can greatly eliminate the flare and ghosts often found in wide-angle lens shooting. The coating ensures VR imaging are not affected by flare and ghosting from light with a larger incident angle even in backlit conditions.

The f/2.8 large aperture of the lens allows VR images to be captured in low light environments with bright, high-quality images, combined with the high-sensitivity CMOS image sensor of the EOS R5 and the powerful noise cancellation capability of the DIGIC X image processor. Even shooting in a low-light environment or shooting scenes where the exposure is deliberately reduced to express creativity can provide high-quality images. The above designs make shooting VR video more easily for content creators, greatly improving shooting efficiency.

Due to the short focal length of the RF 5.2mm f/2.8L Dual Fisheye, the dust on the front and rear lenses may also be captured in the image. Therefore, a fluorine coating is specially added to the front lens element to make cleaning easier. The lens is also designed to be dust and water-resistant, improving the reliability and durability of use in different environments.

EOS VR system: streamlining the VR production process

The video captured by the camera needs to be converted to a VR file format before it can be displayed on a head-mounted display device (HMD) 3D VR video. Therefore, the traditional VR image production process includes 4 stages: shooting, checking, conversion and editing.Under Canon’s VR imaging system, images are captured using just one camera with one CMOS image sensor, rendering the parts of the workflow that were necessary with a two-camera system—such as aligning the positions and synchronizing the settings of the left and right cameras before the shoot.

The EOS VR system uses 180o as the viewing angle of VR video, which is half of 360o VR video. Its advantage is that it can reduce the amount of data generated by the movie and provide high-resolution movies that are easier to process, so it is very suitable for producing highly realistic images. In addition, the photographer and area behind the camera will not be taken into the lens when shooting, making it more convenient for shooting and production.

How VR images are created

VR production often requires remote shooting. Users can use the EOS Utility[4] computer software to adjust camera settings and transfer images from the camera to the computer, or use the Camera Connect[5] smartphone app to adjust camera settings and check images from a smartphone. After shooting, users can choose EOS VR Utility computer software (paid subscription service) or EOS VR Plugin for Adobe Premiere Pro (paid subscription service) to simply convert the image into a 180o VR format Equirectangular Projection. They can also automatically correct the horizon and correct lens parallax during conversion to further improve work efficiency. Among them, EOS VR Utility supports image conversion and basic editing, and allows adjusting the image quality and file format according to post-processing and display environments. The EOS VR Plugin for Adobe Premiere Pro allows users to perform file conversion and post-editing within the Adobe Premiere Pro editing software.

EOS VR Utility (Paid Subscription Service)
  • A computer software application that lets users convert images into equirectangular projections (180o VR format) and perform simple editing on them.
  • Supports switching images/footage shot by the left and right lenses. Also supports toggling between circular fisheye and equirectangular projection displays.
  • Supports horizontal correction and parallax correction for VR images Supports playback and basic cutting of 180-degree VR images on computer monitors.
  • Videos recorded in 8K can be converted and saved in a different size, file specification, or format.
  • LUTs (Lookup Tables) can be applied to videos recorded in Canon Log mode.
  • Supports output to DPX (Digital Picture Exchange) and Apple ProRes (MacOS Version) for NLE (non-linear editing) purposes.

EOS VR Plugin for Adobe Premiere Pro (Paid Subscription Service)
  • A computer software plugin for video creators who edit with Adobe Premiere Pro.
  • Supports switching images/footage shot by the left and right lenses and converting image into equirectangular projection. (180o VR format)

Canon Develops SPAD Sensor with World-Highest’s 3.2-Megapixel Count

Cross-sectional views and top-view layouts of conventional BSI SPAD array (left) and BSI charge focusing SPAD array (right).
Canon Develops SPAD Sensor with World-Highest’s 3.2-Megapixel Count That Realizes High Color Reproduction Even in Dark Environments

MELVILLE, NY, December 16, 2021 – Canon Inc. announced today that the company, thanks to a proprietary pixel architecture that efficiently captures and greatly multiplies light, has successfully developed an ultra-small 13.2 mm x 9.9 mm SPAD sensor capable of capturing the world’s highest1 resolution of 3.2-megapixel images—a higher resolution than Full HD (approximately 2.07 megapixels), even in low-light environments. The manufacturing of the new sensor will begin in the second half of 2022. In addition, a research paper detailing the company’s findings has been selected for the Late News Papers2, an extremely competitive publication of the International Electron Devices Meeting3 conference, from December 11-15, 2021.

A SPAD sensor is a uniquely designed image sensor in which each pixel possesses an electronic element. When a single light particle, called a photon, reaches a pixel it is multiplied—as if creating an “avalanche”—that results in a single large electrical pulse. With CMOS sensors, the readout of the accumulated electronic charge contains electronic noise, which diminishes image quality, due to the process by which accumulated light is measured. Meanwhile, with SPAD sensors, noise does not interfere with the readout of light as electrical signals. This enables clear image capture of subjects that is free from signal noise, and provides advantages such as greater sensitivity during image capture and high-precision distance measurement4.

Measured PDE comparison between previous Canon developed SPAD sensors and the newly developed SPAD sensors
The newly developed SPAD sensor utilizes a proprietary pixel architecture that reflects photons inside the pixel in order to effectively detect photons across the entire range of the effective pixels. Under equivalent light, this SPAD sensor can capture the same images as a conventional CMOS sensor while requiring only 1/10 of imaging area. This makes possible an ultra-small design that can be installed even in small devices and greatly increases sensitivity, including for light on the near-infrared spectrum, and realizes video capture with 3.2 megapixels under low-light conditions of 0.002 lux5—darker than a starless night sky. By equipping cameras designed for low-light and monitoring applications with this new SPAD sensor, even video footage of low-light environments can be viewed as if it were recorded in bright areas, enabling identification of subject movement as though viewing with the naked eye in well-lit environments.

In addition, the SPAD sensor is capable of extremely high information processing speeds on the level of 100 ps (picoseconds, one-trillionth of a second), enabling it to capture objects moving at high speeds including photons. With a resolution that surpasses Full HD and high sensitivity that enables capture of faint light, the sensor’s unique rapid response functionality can be utilized in a wide range of applications including self-driving vehicles, medical treatment, diagnostic imaging devices and scientific precision measuring instruments.

Canon launches “DX Journey: Achieving Digital Maturity” Event

Canon launches “DX Journey: Achieving Digital Maturity” Event
Throughout the transformation journey, the digital technologies support companies to acquire constant adaptability and flexibility in the increasing digital environment

8 December 2021, Hong Kong – Digital transformation does not simply refer to technology implementation and improvement. Instead, it is about deploying digital capabilities across different business functions to reach operational maturity. Canon Hong Kong hosted “DX Journey: Achieving Digital Maturity” at Hyatt Regency Hong Kong, Tsim Sha Tsui. Invited business partners, industry leaders and customers, the event delivered inspirational concepts, practical advice, and interactive technology demonstrations of Canon’s latest products and solutions for an all-round digitalization and digital maturity.

The event identified 8 key business functions that enterprises can focus on: sales, marketing, finance & accounting, legal, information technology, administration, human resources and reception. Each function possesses their own process of digitalization that requires the support of different tools. Alongside with the aid of the Digital Maturity Model (DMM), enterprises can create their unique, industry-oriented roadmap of digital transformation that fits in line with their business strategies.

Mr. Philip Chan, Senior Director and General Manager of Business Imaging Solution & Production Printing Group, Canon Hong Kong. said, “Implementing more and better technologies alone is inadequate, the transformation must be accompanied by a powerful digital culture that aligns all stakeholders, business structure, tasks, and the corporate culture.” The DMM identifies 5 core business dimensions that enterprises should focus on so as to reach digital maturity. “By evaluating digital capability based on the DMM, enterprises can prioritize the areas to emphasize and establish short- and long-term plans for enhancement. Hence, they can reach digital maturity as a whole”, Mr. Philip Chan added.

The 5 Focuses of the Digital Maturity Model (DMM)
  • Customer Enhance customer experience through their preferred channels
  • Strategy Transform and operate in a way that can increase competitiveness effectively
  • Technology Process data efficiently through appropriate tools
  • Operations Optimize and evolve operation across different business functions
  • Organization & Culture Encourage a digital culture with governance and talent management

Transcending Traditional Limits
Times have changed. Enterprises require fully open, intelligent, and highly compatible systems to enhance their competitive advantage. Canon’s Data Capture Solution, IRISXtract, is an AI driven solution that can automatically perform template-less and high-quality data extraction for unstructured documents. From document scanning, file classification, data extraction, indexing, archiving and distribution, the process no longer relies on 1 set of template and rules per layout with zonal OCR technology. Instead, the solution is based on a free-form, full-text approach that requires no templates nor manual configuration.

Furthermore, IRISXtract can retrieve data from multichannel sources for different types of documents, such as paper, electronic and e-mail. Up to 80 million address data can be extracted under 1 second. Files processed will then enter existing Document Management System for workflow approval and archiving. Its AI and machine learning technology drive continuous improvement in accuracy, allowing employees to experience a more efficient and flexible data capturing process. By eliminating monotonous and mundane tasks, employee satisfaction level and morale can be elevated for enhanced efficiency. Business can therefore free up their resources for core functions to get a competitive edge.

Enhancing Customer Engagement
Marketing competition is fierce, while customers are savvier. The widespread adoption of digital technologies has multiplied the interactions between brands and consumers. Canon offers cutting-edge Customer Communication Management Solutions (CCM), which focuses on data mining and customer engagement and is able to help enter into a new era between enterprises and customers via a powerful, personalized and effective communication solution.

The solution is designed to streamline customer data into a centralized content management platform by integrating information from various enterprise systems. This empowers companies who own a huge database such as banks, insurance firms and grocery retailers to produce millions of personalized yet omnichannel communications in just hours. The messages created are on-brand, instantly available, and consistent across all channels. CCM therefore becomes faster and easier than ever.

Since segmenting and processing a massive database manually can be time-consuming, inaccurate, repetitive and dull, while outsourcing such data processing might lead to high cost, long turnaround time, and leakage of sensitive data. CCM can automate data processing with little or no programming for rule and template setting, which is ease and perfect for in-house marketing strategies execution.

Fulfilling Diversified Needs
Global spending on cloud services is forecast to see a continuation of rapid adoption and growth in 2022, reaching over $482 billion which is up 54% year over year. Yet, some businesses remain to choose dedicated server because it offers a robust security, greater control, and a performance that can perfectly match with business requirements. To obtain the best of both worlds, Canon’s output management solution, uniFLOW features a built-in hybrid technology that continues to combine on-premises and cloud resources to offer complementary benefits. This brings the traditional server-based print and scan environment into a highly flexible hybrid system. User can download print jobs from uniFLOW Online to server and process them through server workflows such as on-premises budget control. Meanwhile, they can also enjoy more print job submission methods that was only available in uniFLOW Online. Such hybrid infrastructure enables a higher scalability, instant deployment and guaranteed uptime that is beneficial to any corporation, regardless of size and industry.

Increasing number of public or shared spaces offer printing and scanning services for their users. To better facilitate the management of these services, Canon provides On-demand Payment Solution, PayLink, which is designed to enhance user experience with the ease of use and efficiency. PayLink supports a variety of mobile payment methods including AlipayHK and WeChat Pay, allowing users to choose their preferred platform. By simply scanning the QR code generated on Canon’s multi-function device, users can either perform one-off payment for printing, scanning and copying. Tracking of usage and costs is made easier with its graphical reports and dashboard for administrators as well, which is ideal for public and shared spaces such as co-working space, coffee shop, library and university for improved resource allocation and management.

Utilizing Robots in Workplace
Autonomous delivery robots are gaining momentum within the market, where one of the driving forces of such expansion is the global emergence of the e-commerce company. It can be seen that organizations such as hotels, airports, large companies and universities with extensive grounds of their own are introducing these robots to transport different goods to from one location to another. Canon’s Intelligent Service Robot is an electric-powered motorized vehicle, which is trained to operate in office environment. It can be used to deliver items such as courier and incoming mail to specific department or staff without the need for human intervention. Upon pick-up, receivers are required to enter password for assets to prevent any unauthorized access to confidential items. As a result, the need for human resources for this dull and non-creative task can be eliminated and reallocated for other valuable tasks.

Delivering Superior Reception Experience
Virtual reception booms across different industries amid the pandemic. It creates a contactless check-in experience that perfectly suits event venue and company office. Canon’s Virtual Reception Solution enables visitor to perform self check-in with their unique QR code upon their arrival. A kiosk with floor plan can be used to guide visitors to the destination once registration completes, which can also be used to deliver relevant information and display advertisements. In the meantime, the system will notify the host automatically with real-time updates. It is also compatible in connecting with third-party's calendar for meeting room booking purposes, ensuring the meeting and event information in the system is up-to-date.

Canon to provide EF 400mm f/2.8L IS II USM Lenses for Dragonfly Project

Canon U.S.A. Inc., to Provide 120 EF 400mm f/2.8L IS II USM Lenses for Expansion of the Dragonfly Telephoto Array Project
Canon U.S.A. Inc., to Provide 120 EF 400mm f/2.8L IS II USM Lenses for Expansion of the Dragonfly Telephoto Array Project

MELVILLE, NY, November 18, 2021 – Canon U.S.A. Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced the company will provide technical assistance to Project Dragonfly, an international research team from Yale University, and the University of Toronto, in its plan to expand the Dragonfly Telephoto Array. The company will provide the project with 120 Canon EF 400mm f/2.8L IS II USM large-aperture super-telephoto single-focal length lenses, and its parent company, Canon Inc., will provide technical assistance.

The Dragonfly Telephoto Array is a telescope array equipped with multiple Canon large-aperture super-telephoto single focal length lenses – specifically, the Canon EF 400mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens. The telescope was designed in 2013 by Project Dragonfly, an international research team from Yale University and the University of Toronto. The Dragonfly Telephoto Array is capable of capturing images of galaxies that are so faint and large that they had escaped detection by even the largest conventional telescopes. Its mission is to study the low surface brightness universe to elucidate the nature of dark matter and to utilize the concept of distributed telescopes.

In support of this research, Canon provided technical assistance by supplying 40 Canon EF 400mm f/2.8L IS II USM lenses in 2015, expanding the array to 48 lenses with 24 telescopes bundled on two separate mounts. Since then, the research team has produced significant results in extragalactic astronomy, including discovering the ultra-diffuse galaxy Dragonfly 44 in 2016 and the identification of a galaxy that lacks dark matter, NGC 1052-DF2, in 2018.

This time, Canon will provide technical assistance by supplying 120 Canon EF 400mm f/2.8L IS II USM lenses to the research team, further expanding the telescope array. With a total of 168 lenses, the telescope array has a light-gathering capability equivalent to that of a refracting telescope of 1.8 meters in diameter, with a focal length of only 40 cm, and is expected to open new windows on the universe.

Canon is committed to contributing to the development of science and technology by leveraging the technological strengths it has cultivated as a leading imaging company.

Message from Professor Pieter van Dokkum of Yale University comments

The Dragonfly Telephoto Array is the pre-eminent survey telescope for finding faint, diffuse objects in the night sky. It has enabled us to discover ultra-diffuse galaxies and other low-surface brightness phenomena—rendering images that deepen our understanding of how galaxies are formed and providing key insights into the nature of dark matter. The initial array was equipped with 48 Canon EF 400mm telephoto lenses featuring anti-reflection coatings that mitigate the effects of light scattering, overcoming the limitations of conventional telescopes in detecting faint structures. The lenses are coupled to monolithic wide-field detectors that permit excellent error control. With the addition of 120 of these lenses, in a newly developed configuration allowing extremely narrow filters to be used, Dragonfly will be the most powerful wide-field spectroscopic line mapping machine in existence. A major goal of the next iteration of the Dragonfly array is to detect and study the faint gas thought to exist around and between galaxies. By opening this new window on the cosmos, Dragonfly will tackle some of the most critical questions in astrophysics today.

New Firmware Updates: Canon EOS R5, EOS R6 and EOS-1D X Mark III

New Frmware Updates: Canon EOS R5, EOS R6 and EOS-1D X Mark III
Canon brings the precision and simplicity of the EOS R3 to its range of professional cameras

London, United Kingdom, 16ᵗʰ November 2021 – Canon Europe today announces firmware updates for the EOS R5 (firmware v1.50), EOS R6 (firmware v1.50) and EOS-1D X Mark III (firmware v1.60). Following the recent launch of the EOS R3, a powerhouse for sport and reportage photography, Canon bolsters its professional range of cameras with enhanced detection, seamless file transfer and optimized support for lenses.

Building on user feedback and the success of the EOS R3, Canon’s latest firmware levels up the EOS R5, EOS R6 and EOS-1D X Mark III

Unrivalled detection for subject tracking

Across both the EOS R5 and EOS R6, this update delivers enhanced recognition of subjects. Users of these cameras are now able to select “vehicles” as the main subject. Inheriting this ability from the EOS R3, the cameras can track racing cars and bikes. The update also enhances the overall AF tracking of people, with improved eye and face detection even when the subject is wearing a mask, as well as adding body detection. Strengthening detection within the EOS-1D X Mark III for winter sports, the firmware provides improved head detection for subjects wearing goggles and helmets.

Simplified operation for streamlined workflows

For professional photographers, their camera needs to operate as an extension of them, with seamless and intuitive functionality to help them capture the shot. This upgrade gives EOS R5 and EOS R6 owners the ability to set a custom white balance in Live View, streamlining manual white balance control. Across all models, the firmware ensures that photographers aren’t able to mistakenly transfer files by pressing the multi-controller when "Transfer with SET" is set for FTP transfer. Previously, the EOS-1D X Mark III employed separate buttons for voice memo and image rating, but with newly added settings users can use one button to do both functions simultaneously.

Enhanced support for lenses

As the RF lens range continues to grow, photographers are able to unlock new possibilities with their cameras. Thanks to this latest update, the EOS R5 is now compatible with Canon’s EOS VR SYSTEM and the RF 5.2mm F2.8L DUAL FISHEYE lens, enabling content creators to easily capture immersive footage for virtual reality. The update also offers full-time manual support for the RF 70-200mm F4L IS USM¹, even if AF is selected.

The EOS R5, EOS R6 and EOS-1D X Mark III firmware updates will be available to download from 2nd December 2021 from local online support centres

Tsuzuri Project donates The Wind and Thunder Gods to Kenninji Temple

Tsuzuri Project to donate high-resolution facsimile of The Wind and Thunder Gods screens to Kenninji Temple in Kyoto Prefecture

Tsuzuri Project to donate high-resolution facsimile of The Wind and Thunder Gods screens to Kenninji Temple in Kyoto Prefecture

TOKYO, November 5, 2020—Canon Inc. announced today that the Tsuzuri Project (officially, the Cultural Heritage Inheritance Project), a joint project organized by Canon and the Kyoto Culture Association (NPO), donated a high-resolution facsimile of "The Wind and Thunder Gods" by Tawaraya Sotatsu as part of the project's Stage 14. The facsimile was donated to Kenninji Temple in Kyoto Prefecture, and will be on display from November 5.

The Wind and Thunder Gods, whose original work is owned by Kenninji Temple and held in the collection of the Kyoto National Museum, is considered to be the crowning achievement of artist Tawaraya Sotatsu, founder of the Rinpa (Rin School), and one of the definitive works of Japanese culture. At the request of Kenninji Temple, the original is currently held in storage at the Kyoto National Museum and is only occasionally on display for public viewing.

The first high-resolution facsimile of the work, produced during Stage 4, was donated to Kenninji Temple in 2011, where it has since been on display for a large number of visitors from around the world. Now in Stage 14 and with the latest technology developed in the ten years since the first high-resolution facsimile was produced, the decision was made to create another high-resolution facsimile that is even more accurate to the original.

To produce the high-resolution facsimiles, the original work was photographed using a high-performance Canon EOS R5 full-frame mirrorless camera, creating a high-resolution image with more approximately 4.2 billion pixels. Combining Canon's technical expertise in imaging, processing and output with the master craftsmanship of traditional Kyoto artisans, the original work is recreated down to the finest details, including dark clouds of ink against a background of gold paper, the fine grains of the pigment and delicate brushstrokes. What's more, thanks to improved accuracy of the project's independently developed color-matching system, high-precision color matching can be completed in a short time, helping to reduce wear on the original work and making possible the production of more faithful high-resolution facsimiles.

The high-resolution facsimile of The Wind and Thunder Gods, produced with state-of-the-art imaging technology, will be donated to Kenninji Temple on November 5. The donated facsimile will be installed in the temple and available for public viewing (admission fee required).

Through the efforts of the Tsuzuri Project, original works can be preserved in more ideal environments while their high-resolution facsimiles can be widely used for public display, allowing more people the opportunity to experience the works in person.

About the Tsuzuri Project

The Tsuzuri Project is a social contribution initiative organized by the Kyoto Culture Association and co-sponsored and promoted by Canon with the goal of preserving original cultural assets and creating high-resolution facsimiles. Combining Canon's technical expertise in imaging, processing and output with the master craftsmanship of traditional Kyoto artisans, the Project produces and donates high-resolution facsimiles of such celebrated historical Japanese cultural assets as folding screens, sliding doors and illustrated scrolls. As of this most recent work, the camera and equipment used in the process of creating the high-resolution facsimiles have been upgraded, and now includes an EOS R5 full-frame digital interchangeable-lens camera and Speedlite EL-1 flash unit. Thanks to this new equipment, the high-resolution facsimiles can be produced in better quality than ever before.

The Project began in 2007 with two objectives—to donate high-resolution facsimiles of Japanese art abroad to their original owners, and to create high-resolution facsimiles of historical cultural assets that appear in school textbooks for use as tangible educational materials to teach primary and secondary school students about Japan's history, art and culture. Different works from artists including Katsushika Hokusai, Tawaraya Sotatsu and Ogata Korin, have been selected every year since, with the work most recently donated as the Project's 58th facsimile.

It’s thanks to the support from all of you in the cinema production industry, we’ve made it all the way here from our very first steps into Hollywood. In order to help creators produce work as close to their ideals as possible, we will continue to push forward in our efforts to further develop the Cinema EOS System.

The cinema production industry evolves day by day, and Canon will also continue to implement new technologies in order to create products that serve the ever-diversifying needs of users.

Message from David Klein, member of the American Society of Cinematographers and Cinema EOS System user

Canon still cameras and lenses have been in my hands since I was old enough to click a shutter. Canon’s cinema lenses have been in my hands for almost ten years now, and we have relied heavily on specific characteristics like their personality, sharpness, consistency, and reliability. The EOS-1D C camera has been in the arsenal since 2013, along with every flavor of EOS C300 cameras in some capacity, and they’ve all given us the images we want and need on a daily basis. So happy 10th-anniversary Cinema EOS System, we’re all looking forward to the next ten.

The Cinema EOS System Product Lineup

Launched in 2011, Canon’s Cinema EOS System leverages the company’s strengths—including the ability to develop and manufacture in-house key features such as CMOS sensors, visual processing platform, and interchangeable lenses. Today, the system’s expansive lineup comprises 13 digital cinema cameras and 30 cinema lenses*. In addition to digital cinema cameras and lenses, the system is compatible with the company’s EOS Series RF and EF lenses, helping to support a diverse range of visual expression for creators everywhere.
