Canon Europe to showcase creative education for women empowerment and gender equality at European Development Days
31 May 2018 – Canon Europe, world-leader in imaging solutions, has been selected by the European Commission to showcase its sustainability initiatives at this year’s European Development Days that will take place in Brussels on 5-6 June.
This year’s European Development Days theme will be ‘gender equality and women empowerment’ and Canon will be showcasing how it is utilising the power of imagery to support livelihoods, give young people a visual voice on implementing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and drive gender equality.
Visitors to the Canon stand can take part in workshops that will give them a taste of Canon’s creative education platforms along with learning more about Canon’s Young People Programme which aims to give young people a visual voice on the global issues that affect their future, and the Miraisha Programme which aims to help local people across Africa establish careers in photography and print.
Stuart Poore, Director of Sustainability at Canon Europe said, “Imagery is incredibly powerful. It allows you to connect with an audience and bring people into your world. We are thrilled to be exhibiting at the European Development Days and will be using this as an opportunity to show the change we’re empowering others to make: from our Young People Programme, which is helping the next generation raise their voices on subjects that matter, to Miraisha, which is supporting local people up-skill for careers in the imaging sector.”
The two-day event will include high level panel discussions, project labs, exhibitions, activities focused on youth involvement and stands where innovative projects and solutions will be presented. Participants at the European Development Days include high level EU officials, representatives from EU Member States, NGOs, associations and businesses.
